MARY BURKES
Mary Owston Burkes passed away in Sterling community Hospital, Sterling, Kansas, April 3, 1972 after a lengthy illness. she was born April 11, 1973 at Edina, Missouri and came to the Nickerson community in 1976. She was married to George W. Owston on Feb. 22, 1893 at Nickerson. He died in 1948. She was married to Perry Burkes on March 25, 1956 at Nickerson; he died Dec. 3, 1964. She was a member of the Nickerson United Methodist Church. For the past several years, Mrs. Opal Ritter has made her home with her Aunt Mary and helped care for her.
She is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Russell Estey of Langdon, Kansas; a step-son, Lloyd C. Burkes of Gates Mills, Ohio; by one brother Elmer Van Natten of Drasco, Arkansas.
